In separate sessions, I had a chance to talk recently with both Matt McRae, the CTO of Vizio, and Anthony Wood, the CEO of Roku. Both are long-time consumer tech guys, but more importantly both are guys who have been focused on living room tech and TV tech for at least a decade.
There’s a lot of talk about how the remote can change pretty radically, with many pointing to either motion sensing technology and voice as key interfaces for the future. Others are pointing to touchscreens.
Not surprising was both focused on simplicity. More interesting was this focus meant both Matt and Anthony believed the classic remote push button/up-down-left-right had a lot of life left.
Take a listen.
